It was that time of day again - settling to roost on my favourite branch in the aromatic ilang-ilang (ylang-ylang) bush. Despite making this little corner of the garden my resting space, the people somehow always find me. They collect my secret eggs and pat my scalp, give me greens to eat and praise me for giving them more, despite the fact they’ve never asked. Always took. The girl gave me a piece of string for my head, telling me that I look pretty. I think this string would be better used for my nest, but I cannot take it off. I have no use for this decorative string, I don’t know what “pretty” is supposed to be and why it matters for me to be dressed up to be their good chicken. I’m just a girl, just a chicken, and I am going to bed.
