Kamayan Feast/Budol Fight, 2024
acrylic on canvas
Original Painting by Marianne Valdez
This version of a kamayan feast is considered “healthier” than most because there is no barbecue or lechon. Still delicious in my mind’s eye, a fresh seafood spread with an array of fried bangus (milkfish), grilled/dried fish (tuyo), mussels, cooked shrimp, mangoes, salted egg, okra, and a soy sauce dip with a mixture of calamansi served on a bed of fluffy white rice. I can’t wait for the next time I’ll gather with my relatives and everyone down the block to enjoy a full meal. Kain na! / Let’s eat!
